 The main focus of the Advisory Board meetings are School Improvement and Teaching & Learning. The function of the Advisory Board is to support the Head of Academy and staff, in maintaining and developing the school’s vision. Governors need to play the role of a friend, but a critical one challenging where necessary, but always remembering that the Headteacher is responsible for the day to day running of the school.

Key responsibilities of Governors

  • Appointing senior staff
  • Budgeting and managing finance and resources
  • Setting aims and objectives of the school
  • Setting policies for achieving the aims and objectives of the school
  • Setting aims and objectives for pupil attainment
  • Monitoring and evaluating a school’s progress
  • Being a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher
